Precise diagnostics for abnormal Pap test or HPV findings
If an abnormal Pap smear or a positive HPV test is detected during a gynecological check-up, a so-called clarification colposcopy may be necessary. At our modern gynecological practice in Hamburg, we offer you this important examination with a great deal of experience, care and a trained eye for your individual needs.
When is a clarifying colposcopy necessary?
A colposcopy is usually recommended for
Abnormal Pap test (e.g. Pap III, Pap IIID, Pap IV)
Positive HPV test, especially for high-risk types
Unclear or abnormal findings during the check-up
Persistent symptoms such as intermenstrual bleeding, pain or discharge
To check for known cell changes in the cervix
Individual consultation
First of all, we take the time for a personal consultation in which we discuss your medical history, current findings and any complaints you may have.
Examination with the colposcope
The cervix, vagina and vulva are viewed under a special magnifying lens. Suspicious cell changes can be made more visible by applying acetic acid or iodine solution.
Targeted sampling (biopsy)
If necessary, we take small tissue samples for fine tissue examination. This step is usually not very painful and only takes a few minutes.
Discussion of the results
Once we have received the laboratory results, we will explain the diagnosis to you in a clear manner and discuss the next steps together – whether close monitoring, minor interventions or therapeutic measures are necessary.
